Great Gobi A Strictly Protected Area
Travel distance: TBD
Date: September 8 - 20, 2025
The Great Gobi A Strictly Protected Area encapsulates the beauty and harshness of Mongolia. The 23 rangers that protect an area larger than the size of Switzerland endure extreme weather from -40C (-40F) winters to +40 (+40C) summers. As they patrol hundreds of kilometers in the vast Gobi Desert, a reliable motorcycle is their lifeline and best companion.
Black Hills
Date: Sep 17 - 21, 2025
Returning to the Black Hills in 2025, we will ride in support of not only Oglala-Sioux rangers, but also Conservation Officers from the nearby Northern Cheyenne Reservation. These rangers face tremendous challenges patrolling rugged and remote terrain to combat poaching and other threats to wildlife and natural wonders.
Nam Poui National Protected Area
Travel distance: TBD
Date: October 27 - Nov 7, 2025
Nam Poui National Protected Area, situated in the northwest of Laos, is home to one of the most stronghold populations of the Asian Elephant and is home to the last population of white-handed Gibbons in Laos. A team of dedicated park rangers and volunteer rangers patrol the forest in rainy and dry seasons, often in need of smaller vehicles for the mountainous terrain. With only 2-3 bikes available, they require more vehicles, especially in urgent situations such as illegal logging, wildlife trade, or human-wildlife conflict where quick access to the area is essential.
Despite the area's global significance, the protected area lacks adequate support in management, biodiversity assessments and elephant conservation. Rally for Rangers will support these rangers and the local community who rely on this habitat.
